A reflection on 2011 and a Happy New Year from Guys Cliffe House!...

Well it's New Years Eve, 2011... It's time to take a moment to reflect upon the past 12 months. It has been a mixed year, with
some high moments, some low moments and some sad moments. There have been plenty of developments Guy's Cliffe House wise, with
changes to the websites and busy events at the old house... One development that has proven very popular early this year has been the publishing by our very own Terry Roberts of his book,
Recollections of a Country Mansion. This has sold far beyond our expectations, proving there is a very wide audience of both Guy's
Cliffe enthusiasts and those intrigued by local history. We have sent books literally all over the globe so far and plans are in
place to take this book even further with future editions to be published... Following on from the success of Terry's book, we were very proud to bring the 'old Guys Cliffe House website' back to life
(guyscliffehouse.co.uk). This website has been redeveloped to promote the various events which are available to take place at Guys
Cliffe House, such as wedding receptions, paranormal investigations and private or corporate events. Not of course to forget the
Friends of Guy's Cliffe Garden Party in the summer and the Heritage Open Days in September. The historical image archive and
historical elements of the property are all now contained within the GuysCliffeHouse.org.uk website. This site itself has
undergone some dramatic changes too, with a much improved gallery display system and more adaptable site structure. All in all the
websites for Guys Cliffe House go from strength to strength, including the publishing of even more photos, illustrations and
paintings of this wonderful property...The 2011 Garden Party proved as popular as ever with over 1200 visitors recorded and the Heritage Open Days in September 2011
attracted several hundred visitors each day with a grand total of 745 visitors, making Guy's Cliffe one of the most popular
Heritage Open Day destinations in Warwickshire... The year wasn't completely filled with happy events or good news, for in August we were very sad to announce the lost of a good
friend of Guy's Cliffe and a dear friend and inspiration to many. Roy Robinson, the 'Last Resident' of Guy's Cliffe during it's
time as a Boys Home throughout WW2. Roy sadly died in August after a long term illness. He will be missed and our memories of him
cherished. Roy's ashes were scattered in November within the grounds at Guy's Cliffe by some of his many friends. The book authored by Roy, documenting his very diverse life is due to be published very soon. The book titled C'est La Vie, will soon be made available to purchase online from ourselves.... Guy's Cliffe has seen no less than 15 centuries of developments and so one year seems so little compared but Guy's Cliffe House
means so much to so many people right up to the present day. We look forward to sharing the interest of this magical and often
mysterious location with the wider audience and we hope to be able to bring news of more great Guy's Cliffe related stuff over the
following year... We wish all our visitors, past, present and future a very Happy New Year!!

GuysCliffeHouse.org.uk Historical Image Archive - Donations to a good cause...

We would like to ask visitors to GuysCliffeHouse.org.uk Historical Image Archive a question... Did you enjoy visiting the photo archive? and would you like to make a donation to what we believe to be a very worthy project?... If the answer to both of those is yes then please read on... The GuysCliffeHouse.org.uk Historical Image Archive is the official and definitive archive collection of historical images relating to Guys Cliffe House, Warwickshire, England ever compiled (and yet still not entirely complete online!)... This is provided for free to all visitors albeit at cost to the creator... Therefore we would like to appeal to our visitors who continue to enjoy viewing the images for either pleasure or research to maybe consider making a donation to a good cause, which we ourselves also financially support... The cause we would like you to consider making a donation to is to help support one of the most spectacular aircraft ever created, the very last airworthy flying Avro Vulcan B2 Cold War Bomber, callsign XH558... This Vulcan is not owned by the RAF nor receives any government funding, it is the 'people's aircraft', funded entirely by public donations... Without these donations this historic and awe inspiring aircraft would no longer be able to fly... Vulcan XH558 is currently in the middle of her 2011 display season and can be seen flying and amazing the crowds at many airshows around the UK... The Avro Vulcan has been described as 'once seen, never forgotten'... So, if you have indeed enjoyed your visits to our Guys Cliffe House image archive, please do consider making a donation to help maintain Vulcan XH558, you'll be saying thank you to us in the process!... Head over to www.vulcantothesky.org for details of how to help with donations, maybe joining the Vulcan to the Sky Club or finding out where you too can be amazed by her air displays at an airshow near you!... www.vulcantothesky.org...

Appeal - WW2 Boys Home - Identification

During the period between November 1939 and May 1945 Guys Cliffe House was let to the Waifs and Strays Society, under the guardianship of Paul Field, who later formed the Children's Family Trust. Featured in the recently added WW2 Boys Home archive category are some photographs of a few of the boys cared for at Guys Cliffe House. It would be nice to finally add some names to these faces and therefore we appeal to anyone who may be able identify any of the boys to contact us... We are in contact with a couple of the boys who were at Guys Cliffe House and they too are eager to possibly trace some of their former childhood chums...

Archive Update - WW2 Boys Home - November 1939 - May 1945

During the period of the Second World War, Guys Cliffe House was vacated by the family and given over for other purposes, much like during the First World War... On this occasion the house was let to the Waifs and Strays Society, under the guardianship of Paul Field, who later at Guys Cliffe House formed the Children's Family Trust, an organisation still performing a vital role to this very day... Several of the main rooms were converted into dormitories including the Music Room and Drawing Room, with meals taken in the kitchen to save the long walk back to the Dining Room... During the years that the Boys Home remained at Guys Cliffe House the war continued around them, the "old house shook and rattled as bombs crashed down on Warwick"... Some of those lucky boys to have been cared for by the Waifs and Strays Society and the Children's Family Trust are featured here on the few known photographs available...
